This morning I am happy to announce the release of an alpha version of the SSAS Activity Viewer for SQL Server 2014 CTP2. The name has had a slight change and is now called Analysis Services Server Activity Monitor (ASSAM) 2014. As SQL Server 2014 CTP 2 is not fully released or supported by Microsoft this alpha release is exactly that; just a placeholder until the full version of SQL Server 2014 is released.
Release Plan
I plan to release a stable version once SQL Server 2014 is released and fully supported by Microsoft. During that time, any new features that are added to SSASAV 2012 will be added the the stable release of ASSAM 2014. Once both are released I will continue to add features to both until I stop using SSAS 2012, which could be sometime next year or even into 2015…
Release Notes
There are a few extra features in this alpha version that are not available in SSASAV 1.1.
- “Connecting To” message appears
- Dormant Sessions tab added
This version requires .NET 4.0 to be installed (this is the minimum requirement for Analysis Services 2014). ASSAM 2014 will not work on a machine that does not have SQL Server 2014 installed. From my experience with SQL Server 2014 CTP 2 you cannot have any other version of SQL installed so should not be an issue.
SSASAV 2012/ASSAM 2014 is Looking for Volunteers
I’ve got a few more ideas to add to the project, but if you have any ideas, or want to be a developer on the project, let me know and I’ll gladly consider adding you. I’m not looking for l33t devs here; anyone who has a few ideas and isn’t afraid to do a bit of Googling/Binging/Yahooing to get it done is more than welcome to contribute. Latest source code (including all features in the current release) can be downloaded from this link here.
Feedback here or on the Codeplex site is very much appreciated.
